Efforts are being made at several levels to improve the economy of the country which has been wiped out after the Kovid-19 epidemic. Till now many steps have been taken by the Modi government in this direction. The news agency ANI has been quoted by sources as saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is meeting with top officials of the Ministry of Finance and Commerce on Thursday to assess the impact of the Kovid-19 epidemic on the national economy.
He said that the Prime Minister's focus will be on rapid recovery in the economy as the slowdown has been witnessed due to the steep decline in consumer demand for the past few months. During this scheduled video conferencing meeting of about one and a half hours, officials of the Ministries of Finance and Commerce will give their presentation on the situation.
ANI quoted sources as saying, "The Prime Minister is taking feedback from about 50 top officials." Earlier, he held separate meetings with the Economic Advisory Council, Principal and Chief Economic Adviser of the Ministry of Finance and NITI Aayog.
To deal with the challenges of the Corona crisis, in May, the government announced a major financial landmark package of Rs 20.97 lakh crore, setting out as a roadmap for reviving business and economic recovery. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said that the government is assessing the impact of Kovid-19 on the Indian economy and further measures will be taken if needed.
Earlier, Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das had said that there were signs of return to normalcy of Indian economy. Activities have increased after the various restrictions imposed under lockdown were relaxed. However, he said that it is still uncertain when the supply chain will start fully. How long it will take for the demand situation to return to normal and how long this epidemic leaves an impact on our potential growth remains to be seen.
The Reserve Bank Governor was addressing the 7th SBI Banking and Economics Conclave here. He said that development is the first priority for the Reserve Bank, but at the same time financial stability is equally important.
"Since the relaxation of the restrictions, there are signs of the Indian economy returning to normalcy," he said. He said that the government has already announced all measures related to the specific target and a comprehensive level of reform, which will help the country's potential growth.
